About the Opportunity

At the District of Port Hardy, we are thrilled to announce an exceptional opportunity for an energetic, dynamic and visionary professional to join the District of Port Hardy as the Manager of Recreation and Community Services. This key leadership role will be instrumental in shaping the recreational and community event landscape for the District of Port Hardy and our North Island Communities.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Overall management of the Recreation facilities, including the Pool, Arena and Civic Centre
  • Leading and managing a dynamic and energetic recreation team
  • Assisting with preparing the five-year financial plan, overseeing budgets, and preparing work plans 
  • Implement the Preventative Maintenance Program for each facility
  • Attending Council and Committee meetings and preparing 
  • Plan, develop and implement new programs to meet the needs of the community within budget and capacity
  • Organize and deliver several community events such as Canada Day

The Ideal Candidate will have 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate positively with the management team, staff, users, committees, Council and the community.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on enhancing the culture and communications with employees.
  • In-depth knowledge of recreation management principles and practices.
  • Understanding of trends and innovations in the field of recreation.
  • Knowledgeable about the operation and maintenance of recreational facilities, including swimming pools, arenas, and civic buildings.
  • Familiarity with safety and regulatory requirements for each facility type.
  • Knowledge of pool maintenance, water quality, and relevant regulations.
  • Understanding of the operation and scheduling of civic arenas.
  • Knowledge of ice maintenance, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Knowledge of contract management principles.
  • Familiarity with overseeing contracted management for Civic Centre operations and recreation service delivery contracts.
  • Understand community needs and interests related to recreational facilities.
  • Knowledge of strategies to engage the community in recreational programs and services.
